In an industry full of straightforward narratives about demons, aliens, and zombies comes a game that breaks as many conventions as it breaks faces, and explores a bold new threat that jeopardizes the safety of mankind: household appliances.

Control

Pull out your popcorn for the newest Remedy Games joint and watch as Control improves on every aspect of their previous game, Quantum Break, with an intriguing setting, solid gunplay, and about six hours less of bad TV you have to watch to know what's going on. Kill... me... please.

Unfurl the mind-bending narrative of Control, and take control of Jesse Faden, a young woman searching for her missing brother, as she unravels a conspiracy of extra-dimensional proportions, where she must race against the clock to defeat a mysterious entity that's making everyone very hard to work with, in a story with extremely powerful Syfy Original Series vibes that mixes live-action videos, psychedelic visuals, and genuinely interesting characters to create an intriguing setting that manages to do something extremely rare in video games: making you give an actual sh*t about the flavor text. Now, I know I need to go through 40 of these, but I REALLY need to know what's happening in this book club, 'kay?

Explore your way through the Oldest House, a supernatural building in the middle of Manhattan that looks like a collaboration between H. P. Lovecraft and H. R. Giger that a federal agency just found and moved into, which is totally normal -- there's, uh, no way this place is OSHA-compliant -- where you'll reshape the world in order to look for collectibles and use your powers to get to areas you couldn't previously reach, by which we mean "levitate", because everything else is just locked behind story progress. And, quick note: this is not what's commonly referred to as a "Metroidvania", but rather what's known as a "normal-ass video game".

Bind yourself to one of the many objects of power contained in the Bureau, as you are chosen by the Service Weapon like it's a wand in Harry Potter, except with more traumatic brain injury, until you grind enough to become an all-powerful levitating god who can pretty much do whatever you want, except reload your gun when you feel like it, in a battle system that's deeper than it appears... if you don't rage-quit after a boss fight death sends you to a checkpoint five minutes away.

So pull that light switch and tap into that hotline, for an experience that gives the best sci-fi video gaming has to offer a run for its money, and for everyone that actually played Quantum Break... a much better version of that.

Starring: Psychic Scully (Courtney Hope as Jesse Faden); Psycho Mantis (Sean Durrie as Dylan Faden); Cigarette Smoking Man (James McCafferey as Zachariah Trench); Dr. Bunsen Honeydew (Matthew Porretta as Dr. Casper Darling); David Lynch (Martti Suosalo as Ahti); Samantha Carter (Antonia Bernath as Emily Pope); Too Old for This Sh!t Bangalore (Brig Bennett as Helen Marshall); Paul Blart Oop Cop (Ronan Summers as Simon Arish); and HR (The Board).

The honest title for Control was 'Fringe Peaks.'

Holy hell, who knew levitating could feel so awesome?! I'm, like, David Blaine, but less creepy. Like, a lot less.
