Script[]

When the pain and suffering in the adult world have got you down, retreat into your childhood with one of your favorite game series that never quite grew up either, as it tricks your adult brain into role-playing as a rat-collecting 10-year-old again, because they put a new color next to the title.

Pokémon Violet. Or Scarlet, if you're a nerd!

Explore yet another previously unmentioned region of the Pokémon world, where this time, you're a student at a prestigious Pokémon academy, tasked with a region-spanning project to, uh... do whatever, I guess, which basically means you play a normal Pokémon game, except you're walking around in a student uniform all the time like a JoJo, because customizing your own outfit was too fun, but at least you're finally learning important life skills, like making a horrible sandwich. Then, wander around collecting Poké-boys, battling Gym Leaders for Badges, and beating up a team of poorly-dressed weirdos, with occasional detours to fight extra-sized Pokémon and watch a dog slowly die, so you can collect powers for the weird dick-shaped sandwich-gobbling killer motorcycle Pokémon you ride around on, in an open world Pokémon game that makes a better case for the series than any have in a long time, but still boils down to the same handful of mechanics they've always had. So be warned: the main game is still about as challenging as taking a dump; if either of them are making you feel super-butthurt, please consult a physician.

Experience the most ambitious Pokémon map to date, where you have actual choices about where to go next -- although, you can't just wander around anywhere, unless you want an ass-kicking from a Level 40 Diglett -- and you'll super-jump, swim, glide, and climb with your weird Avatar horse, letting you jet around at top speed, not finding the Pokémon you wanted almost twice as fast, and testing the limits of Game Freak's engine, which is sure to spice up your journey with plenty of glitches, bugs, and some fun hard crashes. Remember that Shiny you caught? Hope you saved it, 'cause otherwise, that bad boy just got un-existed! It's almost reminiscent of the good old Game Boy days; you know, when we all tried to glitch the game to catch MissingNo.? Well, now, it's the whole game.

Blast your way through the main campaign like you're field goal-kicking a toddler...

Elderly Woman on Video: (after kicking a "Pikachu") Olé!

...with the help of a new mechanic that gives your Pokémon very stupid hats, that makes them look like a chandelier at a one-percenter's orgy, that allow you to break all of the typing rules and really mess some crap up... not that you need to, because the combat hasn't changed since the 90's, and is easier than your mom, unless you're the sort of pervert that gets really into the post-game, where you'll capture Legendary Pokémon after doing tedious stake-finding quests, and do high-difficulty raids for ever-increasing rewards that you don't actually need for anything, because Nintendo has your soul locked up in a Horcrux in an office building somewhere in Tokyo.

So grab those Master Baaaaalls, and maybe some popcorn, because as is tradition, I'm going to... ugh... I'm going to name all the Pokémon. (under his breath) I despise you little demons... (normally) Here we go! (deep inhale)

Pokémon Sandwich & Glitches

You know, Pokémon might be running out of ideas after a million years of these games, but Larry the Trainer might be the best thing that's happened to Pokémon since Mr. Mime became Ash's stepdad; he's basically what anyone over 30 looks like playing this game.
